"People say that I am romantic, and that I care too deeply about things. I suppose that's true. The things that I care most about are art, love and my friends and family. I think there is nothing more important."

--Robert Ellis Patterson

Robert Ellis Patterson of Austin died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004. Bobby was a wonderful and loving soul. His surviving brother, Eddy Patterson, and Bobby's fiance Kirsten Orr both live in Austin. Additionally, he is survived by his mother and father, Jeannie and Tommy Patterson of Lubbock.

Bobby graduated Lubbock High School in 1987 and graduated the School of American Music and Dramatic Art in New York City. Bobby was an accomplished artist, drawing and painting professionally since adolescence. He spent many years of his young adulthood in New York City working at several prestigious contemporary art galleries, honing his knowledge of that which he loved so much - the creative expression in all its forms.

Bobby moved back to Texas in 1995, painting for himself as well as others and working in art galleries in Dallas. He moved to Austin in 1997 and has been a prominent fixture of that city's thriving art scene from day one.

Bobby introduced many exciting young artists to the city at the first gallery he owned and operated and later opened The Robert Ellis Patterson Gallery in South Austin to showcase his own work, "Inspirational Abstraction." Bobby's essence can most easily be understood by his own words, "People say that I am romantic, and that I care too deeply about things. I suppose that's true. The things that I care most about is art, love and my friends and family. I think there is nothing more important." He will be deeply missed and loved forever by those who were graced by his love.

Memorials should be sent to the Louise Underwood Endowment for the Arts, www.lubbockareaartsfoundation.org .
